Ethos and Values
At Hady Primary School, we want to inspire and foster a thirst for learning, to promote growth as individuals and as a collective. To empower the children to grow into independent, resilient learners who are willing to take risks and learn from their mistakes.
Through the delivery of exciting learning opportunities and rich, creative experiences, we strive to ensure children develop the skills to become resourceful and reflective learners, whilst progressively building knowledge and understanding that is memorable, broad and transferable.
We nurture self-belief in all our pupils, providing opportunities for them to realise and develop new talents and formulate their own aspirations for their future.
We expect pupils to behave as responsible good citizens and role models, supporting them to understand the choices and behaviours that will enable them to make positive decisions. We do this within a culture of mutual respect for all within our community, encouraging kindness, celebrating diversity, fostering acceptance and care for others.
We measure our success in our ability to support pupils to have the skills, knowledge, personal qualities and drive to be successful within the next stages of their life and beyond and to be ready to make a positive contribution to life in modern Britain.
Underpinning our whole school ethos is a community of passionate, enthusiastic adults who strive for continuous development of their own pedagogical understanding. Through the guidance and support of the leadership team, staff are confident, driven and challenged to provide valuable learning opportunities and become the most effective practitioners.
Equality at Hady
Promoting the Protected Characteristics
The Equality Act became law in 2010. It covers everyone in Britain and protects people from discrimination, harassment and victimisation. Everyone in Britain is protected. This is because the Equality Act protects people against discrimination because of the protected characteristics that we all have. Under the Equality Act, there are nine protected characteristics:
- Age
- Disability
- Gender reassignment
- Race
- Religion or belief
- Marriage or civil partnership
- Sex
- Sexual orientation
- Pregnancy and maternity
At Hady, we actively promote these in our curriculum and work to embed them into our ethos. Our protected characteristics text maps for cycle A and cycle B show the class texts we read to encourage positive and guided discussion of the protected characteristics.
Under the Equality Act you are protected from discrimination:
- When you are in the workplace.
- When you use public services like healthcare (for example, visiting your doctor or local hospital) or education (for example, at your school or college).
- When you use businesses and other organisations that provide services and goods (like shops, restaurants, and cinemas).
- When you use transport.
- When you join a club or association (for example, your local rugby club).
- When you have contact with public bodies like your local council or government departments.
